Type 444 is a low carbon, low nitrogen, ferritic stainless steel that provides pitting and crevice corrosion resistance superior to most ferritic stainless steels. Applications requiring superior corrosion resistance and resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking are ideal for this alloy.

Properties & Typical Applications

444 stainless steel is an ultra low carbon nitrogen, 18% chromium and 2% molybdenum, high corrosion resistance ferritic stainless steel. The steel is generally stabilized with niobium or titanium to avoid intergranular corrosion after welding. The steel is especially suitable for various water treatment devices. Mainly used in Food processing and wine making equipment, roofing and cladding in marine environments, hot water tanks and geysers, automotive components and heat exchanger tubings.
