2205 Duplex Stainless Steel (UNS S32205 / S31803)

2205 duplex stainless steel is a chromium-nickel-molybdenum-nitrogen stainless steel with a mixed ferritic-austenitic microstructure. It offers higher yield strength than common annealed austenitic grades such as 304L and 316L, together with good resistance to several forms of localized corrosion and chloride stress corrosion cracking under suitable service conditions.

Properties & Typical Applications

2205 microstructure is approximately 50% ferrite and 50% austenitic, which results in the steel possessing high strength and hardness, and resistance to erosion, fatigue, stress corrosion cracking and pitting and crevice corrosion. Used in ocean, oil refining, chemical fertilizer, paper making, chemical, petrochemical and other seawater resistant high temperature concentrated nitric acid heat exchanger and cold shower device.
